چکیده

A new species of araphid diatom is described from a temporary stream in southern Portugal, Fragilaria odeloucaensis sp. nov., which belongs to the group with widely linear lanceolate valve outline, spaced striae, lacking spines, and well-developed apical pore fields. The taxon can be distinguished based on five unique features within this group, valves capitate apices, zig-zagged axial area, central area squared fascia, fields clearly sunken into apices heterovalvar frustules (with respect striae distancing). Ecological type locality an additional sampling point where was found are given, together discussion taxonomic position Fragilaria, approach used herein for identification diagnostic features. This includes detailed analysis internal external characteristics area-virgae-striae complex, differences among same frustule, addition traditional shape morphometric

The diatom genus Tetracyclus (Fragilariaceae, Bacillariophyta) from Chile

Consequently the name Biblarium chilense is a nomen nudum. Even so, some years later De Toni, observing neither illustration nor specimen, transferred it to Tetracyclus as Tetracyclus (chilensis) chilense (Ehrenb.) De Toni (De Toni 1892: 749). Regardless of these nomenclatural details, that a species of Tetracyclus was found in Chile offered data of potential biogeographic interest (Williams 20...

Morphology and taxonomy of Stephanodiscus vestibulis sp. nov. (Bacillariophyta)

A new species Stephanodiscus vestibulis is described from an eutrophic, hardwater habitat in western North America. Under the light microscope it resembles. and has perhaps been confused with, certain other small species of the genus. Structural features of the valve resolved by SEM, however, show that it is unique. The new species is particularly characterized by arch-like vestibules over the ...

Description of a new species of the diatom genus Brachysira (Bacillariophyta), Brachysira gravida sp. nov. from the Ocala National Forest, Florida, U.S.A

The diatom Brachysira gravida Shayler & Siver sp. nov. is described from an oligotrophic, acidic, freshwater lake in the Ocala National Forest in north-central Florida, U.S.A. The richness of Brachysira was previously investigated to reveal that the genus is both abundant and morphologically diverse in this region of Florida and is therefore of particular taxonomic interest. Valves of Brachysir...
